ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ Mike Knuble and Andrei Kovalenko scored power-play goals less than three minutes apart in the second period, lifting the Boston Bruins past the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in a preseason game Tuesday night.

Steve Kelly had the lone goal for New Jersey with 7:29 left in the second period, as the Stanley Cup champions lost their second straight and fell to 1-2.

The first period was scoreless, despite three Boston power plays and two shots off the post behind Devils goalie Chris Terreri. The Bruins held New Jersey without a shot for the first 14:54.

Early in the second period, the Bruins had a goal disallowed when Kovalenko knocked both Terreri and the puck into the net on a power play.

Less than a minute later, with Devils forward Pierre Dagenais still in the penalty box for slashing, Knuble redirected Jay Henderson's shot past Terreri for a goal.

Kelly scored at 12:31, stuffing in Bobby Holik's nifty backhand centering pass through the crease.

Frederic Henry replaced Terreri to start the third period, and stopped all 10 shots. One came on a two-man disadvantage for 88 seconds early on, with Sascha Goc and John Madden, the Devils' best penalty killer, in the box.

Rookie goalie Andrew Raycroft stopped 21 of 22 shots for the Bruins, including 10 in the third period.
