TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Fredrik Modin scored two goals and Brad Richards had three assists, helping the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-4 preseason tie against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.

Modin opened the scoring, beating goalie Craig Billington 1:39 into the game. He added a power-play goal at 7:05 of the second period to give Tampa Bay (1-1-1) a 3-2 lead.

Three defensemen scored power-play goals for Washington (0-0-1-1) to tie it 3-3 after two periods.

Mike Farrell and Ken Klee scored in the first period for the Capitals against Kevin Weekes, who left after one period with back spasms.

Midway through the second period, Jakub Cutta beat replacement goalie Dan Cloutier, who two minutes earlier assisted on Modin's second goal.

The period was interrupted with 2:21 left, when Gordie Dwyer delivered a glass-shattering check on Farrell behind Billington.

Forward Richard Zednik scored an unassisted goal for the Capitals at 4:42 of the third period, but Pavel Kubina answered for the Lightning 26 seconds later.

The third period also was highlighted by a fight between Dwyer and former Lightning defenseman Joe Reekie. Dwyer received minor penalties for charging and roughing, a 10-minute misconduct and two game misconducts. Reekie received a 10-minute misconduct and a game misconduct.

Tampa Bay center Vincent Lecavalier has missed all three preseason games with a hyperextended elbow.
