DENVER (AP) _ Dave Reid had a goal and an assist and Joe Sakic added a goal as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings 5-1 Saturday night in a preseason matchup.

Patrick Roy stopped 26 shots. Shjon Podein, Joe Sakic, Matthew Scorsune and Alexander Riazantsev added goals for Avalanche.

Jere Karalahti got a late power-play goal for the Kings, who were 1-of-9 on the power play and failed to convert a two-man advantage.

Podein opened the scoring at 4:18 of the first period. Power play goals by Sakic, at 12:25, and Scorsune, at 19:28, increased Colorado's lead to 3-0 after one period. Goals by Reid and Riazantsev gave Colorado a 4-0 edge after two periods.
