KANATA, Ontario (AP) _ Rookie Martin Havlat scored twice to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers in their preseason home opener.

The crowd of 13,842 at the Corel Centre didn't get to see star center Alexei Yashin. Yashin, who sat out last season because of a contract dispute, was not in uniform for the game.

David Oliver had a short-handed goal, Magnus Arvedson scored on the power play and Konstantin Gorovikov added a goal for Ottawa, which outshot Edmonton 16-2 in the first period.

Janne Niinimaa and Georges Laraque scored for the Oilers.

Goalie Eric Heffler played all three periods for Edmonton, while Jani Hurme and Mike Fountain split time for Ottawa.
