Wow, I can't put my finger on what is going on with our team right now. I never thought we were playing great, but we were still playing hard and winning. Last week was a perfect example. We play so hard and beat UCLA and then we come out and play somewhat hard against USC, but we could not score. Obviously, we lost. But what concerns me most is the way that we are playing. USC had a good game plan, but we could not even catch the basketball (season-high 27 turnovers). As a team we need to get back to working on the little things and staying mentally focused enough to do it for 40 minutes, or our Pac-10 hopes and NCAA Tournament stay will be very brief. We have all the pieces to be successful, but we have to find a way to put it all together.
After the USC game I went out to dinner with some friends, and one brought along Chamique Holdsclaw. I really did not want to bother her with questions or anything, but my other friend initiated some questions. Right now I'm really frustrated with our situation, and Chamique could relate to my frustration because of what happened her sophomore year when Tennessee lost 10 games. She gave me some words of wisdom, and to sum it up, told me to keep competing no matter what. Sonja Tate, another WNBA player, told me to just stay positive and keep a good attitude. I cannot control what others do; all I can do is play my game and try to make those around me better, and that's what I am going to try to do for the last three games of Pac-10 play. It's crunch time now, and if we win it's going to be because I help lead us there. Our next trip to Arizona is going to be the toughest of the year. Both teams are playing well and are very good at home. We can't look past either one. We are going to have to play our best if we want to win. Now it is time to find out how good of a team we really are. Our coaches say we play best under pressure. Well, now it is time to find out if that is really true. |
