From first to third in the Pac-10

We're coming off a pretty awful road trip at the Oregon schools. We played Oregon first. The beginning of the first half was good and we were up by 10 at one point. Then the Ducks had a little run at the end of the half to tie it up. We came out in the second half and they just went on a big run. I think it was a 9-0 run in the first five minutes. That kind of told the story of the game and at that point we couldn't come back (UCLA lost 89-72).

That was a big disappointment because last year they did the same thing and beat us pretty badly up there. It was a big game for us; if we would've won that game, we could have been at the top of the Pac-10 all by ourselves. But we didn't, and now we're tied for third with Oregon State.

Speaking of the Beavers, that was our second game of the road trip. We went up there and had a really poor showing against them and lost by 20, 72-52. This last weekend is something that I don't really want to remember. I'll probably remember it forever because it was my last trip to Oregon, but it's something that I'd like to try and forget and move on. I'm sure the team does, too.

Martin's milestones
The Oregon trip was kind of a bittersweet trip because even though we lost, I was able to reach some milestones personally. I scored 39 against Oregon, which was a career high. I also surpassed the 2,000-point mark in our game against Oregon State. That puts me as the No. 2 all-time scorer on the UCLA career-scoring list, and I believe I'm one of eight players in the Pac-10 to ever score 2,000 points.

Gearing up for the Bruins

I found out yesterday that I'm one of 15 finalists for the Naismith Award. People ask me if this kind of stuff makes up for some of the losses and my answer to that is, "No, not at all."

As much as this weekend has been great personally, the bottom line is that we lost. I would give up all the points to have swept the Oregon schools. I just hope that we can make a turnaround and play well for the remaining games in the Pac-10.

Wrapping up Pac-10 play
We play Stanford this Friday. It's a huge game and a big rivalry. The Cardinal beat us up there already earlier this season. We need to get some payback for the first game. We didn't play well up there and we had Erica (Gomez) out, so it wasn't real indicative of how we can play. Also, with (Michelle) Greco now back from her quad injury, hopefully we'll be able to make a difference and show Stanford the real UCLA team that didn't show up in Palo Alto.

We have Cal on Sunday, which is our last game in Pauley Pavilion. It's going to be Senior Day. It's probably going to be really emotional. But at the bottom of all that, we still need to play a game. Hopefully we can get through all the opening ceremonies without too much tears. Cal is a good team and almost beat us up in Berkeley, so we have to make sure we don't lose focus. We want to make Senior Day something that we want to remember.

Being at UCLA has been a lot of fun and I've had a lot of fond memories at Pauley Pavilion. I'm looking forward to sharing it with the fans that have followed us all four years. I want to give thanks to them this weekend and play hard and hopefully come up with two pretty good games.
