Getting past a week of disappointment

(Editor's note: Oregon sophomore guard Shaquala Williams will share a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season. For more information on the Ducks, visit Oregon's official athletic site.)

This week was one of disappointment. We had a great opportunity to jump back to the top of the conference, but we did not take advantage of that chance. We beat Arizona State (66-55), but lost to Arizona (73-66) at home. I give Arizona a lot of credit because the Wildcats came into McArthur Court and did a great job.

But our team cannot start losing home games; that is just not acceptable. Right now we are about to start the second half of the Pac-10 season, and we need to start playing up to our ability.

There was a bright spot this weekend: (freshman guard) Kourtney Shreve stepped up and made some big plays for us in the ASU game. Without her playing the way she did, we might have lost.

The Pac-10 is a strange league -- one night, the favorite wins; the next night, the favorite loses. Most of the teams in our league are not winning games that they should win. Everyone keeps talking about the RPI and how the fact that we all beat each other hurts that ranking. But my response is, just win games and that stuff will take care of itself.

Second time around
Stanford's Carolyn Moos:
Sticking to the philosophy

At the beginning it was said that UCLA would just run away with the title, but now I don't know who is going to end up on top. It will be an interesting Pac-10 race.

This week we have Cal and Stanford at home. We play Stanford first, which will be a HUGE game. Not just because Stanford is in first, but because we are at the point in the season where we just can't lose anymore games because of the implications it has on the NCAA Tournament. And also because of what happened down there earlier this year (Oregon took a 36-10 lead before losing 78-62 at Maples Pavilion on Jan. 15).

The game against Stanford is going to be a 40-minute battle because the Cardinal never quit and we won't, either. The fans are also going to be crazy. Hopefully we'll give them something to cheer about. The Cal game will be tough, too. Down there the Bears competed hard for most of the game. We just pulled away at the end, so we cannot look past them.

Re-visiting the Vols and Huskies
The UConn/Tennessee game last Wednesday was really fun to watch. I did not see the first one, but this one came down to the wire.

Although Tennessee was down by 14 at one point, the Lady Vols never gave up. Semeka Randall hit huge shots down the stretch to help them pull it out. I had never seen (UConn guard) Sue Bird play, but I was really impressed with how she controlled the floor. She hit shots when she needed to and dished when she needed to; she is a great floor general.

Big-time players show up in big-time games and that game was an example of that. Tamika Catchings did what she does, Bird, Randall, and my dawg (Tennessee's Michelle) Snow all did great things. That game was just a preview of what is going to shape up to be a great women's college basketball season.
