We're coming off a heartbreaking (73-69) loss to USC. That was the last time I'll ever get to play USC in my career. Any loss in the Pac-10 is a big deal, but there is such a big rivalry there between these two schools and it is harder to take than just another loss. It's also that much harder when we feel we didn't play our best game and that was the case on Saturday. We played well for about 33 minutes, but in the last seven minutes of the game, we weren't on the same page, we weren't communicating, we weren't blocking out and we gave them a million chances and they took advantage of it. It's a hard way to end my career against USC, but the best way to get over it is to go back, practice and get ready for the Arizona schools and take out any frustration or anger out on them. Not physically, of course; we'll just put that much more effort into playing harder and smarter against Arizona and ASU.
This week we play ASU first, then Arizona. It's the second time around so we know these two schools pretty well. We know what they're both going to throw at us and this is when it gets harder. With this being the second time against these teams, we're going to have to pull some extra tricks out of our bag, play fundamental basketball and not make too many mistakes. I think that's where we went wrong against USC -- we just made too many mistakes. I think we had something like 30 turnovers, and you can't have that many turnovers and expect to win the game. We have a lot to work on this week and hopefully we will come back on Thursday and Saturday and make a few changes and come out on top.
Watching the Red Wings As most people know, I am a huge hockey fan, as well as a Detroit Red Wings fan. The Avalanche were up on the Red Wings 2-0 at the end of the first period. Detroit came back and scored two, then the Avalanche scored one in the second period to make it 3-2. But at the end of the third period, Detroit came back and scored two more goals and ended up winning 4-3. It was a great game, pitting two great Western Conference teams against each other. It was also a matchup of two great goalies in Patrick Roy and Chris Osgood. It was just a fun, fun game to watch. |
