EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) _ Aaron McKie hit a jumper with 1:49 to play to break a tie and the Philadelphia 76ers overcame the absence of an injured Allen Iverson and defeated the New Jersey Nets 91-88 Friday night as the teams wound up exhibition play. Larry Hughes came off the bench to lead Philadelphia (4-4) with 21 points. McKie added 18 and George Lynch had 17 for the Sixers, who open the season on Tuesday against the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs. Iverson, sidelined with a sprained right ankle, is expected to play in the season opener. Stephon Marbury had 27 points for the Nets, who open at home on Tuesday against Indiana. Kendall Gill added 15 for New Jersey (5-3), which had its five starters in double figures. Jamie Feick added 16 rebounds. Philadelphia, which trailed by as many as 13 in the first half, didn't take a lead until midway through the third quarter. The game was close the rest of the way. The Sixers built an 82-77 lead with 4:28 left in the game, but the Nets eventually came back and tied it at 84 on two free throws by Johnny Newman with 2:08 to play. McKie then hit his go-ahead jumper from the right wing with 1:49 to go. Feick had a chance to tie the game with 1:34 left but hit only the second of two free throws. After the teams exchanged turnovers, Eric Snow, who had 10 assists, hit a short jumper in the lane with 37 seconds left after Marbury nearly knocked the ball from his hands. Snow was only 2-of-8 in the game. Gill missed a 3-pointer with about 24 seconds to go before Lynch iced the game with a free throw and then a layup.
