Bibby's triple-double not enough for Grizzlies

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- The Dallas Mavericks suddenly are playing strong defense, getting balanced scoring and winning on the road. Too bad the playoffs are not a possibility.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 15 of his 22 points in the third quarter, leading six Mavericks in double figures, as Dallas beat the Vancouver Grizzlies 100-86 Sunday night.

Dallas, out of postseason play for a league-worst 10th straight year, won for the 12th time in its last 19 road games.

Michael Finley scored 18 points, Hubert Davis had 16 points and seven rebounds in a reserve role, and Shawn Bradley had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

"It was just a really good game for us," Davis said. "I thought we worked hard defensively and played unselfishly on the offensive end. We had a lot of guys trying to find the open man and when you do that, good things happen."

Steve Nash added 11 points and 10 assists and effectively shut down Grizzlies guard Michael Dickerson, who scored 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting. Dickerson had averaged 30 points the past two games.

"Coach said he was the hot guy," Nash said of Dickerson. "He said, `If you're not all over him, he'll kill you.' It's my job to get all over him and luckily it worked and he missed some shots."

The Grizzlies were led by Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who scored 23 points. Mike Bibby had his first career triple-double -- the third in club history -- with 14 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds.

Vancouver's 18 turnovers turned into 24 Dallas points as the Grizzlies lost for the 16th time in 17 games.

Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins picked up his second technical foul and was ejected by referee Tom Washington at halftime after throwing his towel onto the court.

"They put me over the edge," Hollins said after the game, laughing. "There was a series of calls. They called calls that I haven't seen called all year long. We got a five-second call on a post-up and they could call that every night two or three times a game. And it wasn't even the right call."

Vancouver went without a field goal for over nine minutes in the quarter while the Mavericks finished out the half on a 22-4 run. Dallas turned a 29-20 deficit into a 42-33 halftime lead.

Dallas coach Don Nelson was surprised at his team's effort considering their playoff elimination.

"We kept our energy level real high," he said. "I was a little worried about today, but the lads gave me a great effort, so I guess I have nothing to worry about."

Abdur-Rahim was all the Grizzlies had going for them in the first half, with 15 points. The rest of the team went a combined 4-of-25 from the field.
