AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) _ Sophia Witherspoon scored 18 points and Vanessa Nygaard added 16 as the Portland Fire beat the slumping Detroit Shock 61-57 Monday night. Portland (8-16) snapped a three-game losing streak and won on the road for the first time since July 11. The Shock (10-13) have lost three straight since the All-Star break and dropped to fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Both teams struggled through a sloppy first half. Portland shot just 29.7 percent, but led 27-24 at intermission by holding Detroit to 33.3 percent shooting and forcing 12 turnovers. The Fire led 39-35 when Portland went on a 9-1 run. Nygaard scored the final five points, capping it off with a 3-pointer with 8:35 to play. Detroit, which went nearly six minutes without a field goal, falling behind by 12, finally cut the margin to five. But Sylvia Crawley's tip-in gave Portland a seven-point lead and Detroit started turning the ball over again. After Witherspoon's steal and layup with 1:30 made the score 57-48, Detroit had one last flurry.
