CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The Charlotte Sting picked the right time to tie its franchise record for 3-pointers.

Andrea Stinson's 3 with 4.9 seconds remaining sent the game into overtime as Charlotte connected on nine 3-pointers Monday in an 82-78 win over the Indiana Fever.

"There were some great shots," said Sting coach T.R. Dunn. "The one that put it into overtime, and then we hit some good shots in overtime."

After Stinson tied the score, Indiana's Rita Williams missed a shot in the lane that would have won the game at the buzzer.

Dawn Staley opened the scoring in overtime with a 3-pointer for Charlotte. Indiana tied the game at 75 on two Danielle McCulley free throws before Stinson gave Charlotte the lead for good with another 3-pointer.

"Charlotte made some very difficult shots down the stretch," said Indiana coach Anne Donovan. "Stinson's 3 was a backbreaker for us."

Williams scored seven straight points midway through the second half to help Indiana build a 62-53 lead with 7:51 left. But the Sting (6-18) came back behind the play of Stinson and rookie forward Tiffany Travis.

Travis, a reserve, recorded career-highs of 16 points and seven rebounds in 27 minutes for Charlotte.

"I was in a rhythm after my first shot and kept my concentration," said Travis. "We were more focused on attacking and playing defense tonight. I just went out and took advantage of open shots."

Williams led the Fever (6-17) with a season-high 21 points, including 11 of 12 free throws attempts.

Gordana Grubin added 13 points for Indiana, but Kara Wolters was held to nine points and two rebounds. She played just 14 minutes because of foul trouble.

The victory was the third in the last four games for Charlotte, which opened the season 3-17.
