Lindros will miss first round of playoffs

PHILADELPHIA -- Eric Lindros returned to Philadelphia with clearance from his doctor to return to light exercise while he recovers from a concussion.

Lindros was in Toronto since March 23 because of his injury. He was seen Monday morning in Toronto by James Kelly, a neurologist from Chicago's Northwestern University Medical Center. Kelly determined that Lindros had a Grade II concussion, not the less serious Grade I concussion as was first thought.

Lindros, who was relieved as team captain in favor of defenseman Eric Desjardins during the center's absence, returned to Philadelphia on Monday night.

"There are a few things Dr. Kelly is concerned with, but the good news is that I have made progress," Lindros said.

Lindros, who made plans to work out on a stationary bicycle this morning, said he wants to recover quickly enough to join the team by the second round of the playoffs, but was vague when asked if he will be able to do so.

"I can't comment on that until I talk to Dr. Kelly again next week," he said. "I'm anxious to ride the bike because I didn't do much these past weeks, and it's gotten old, sitting around."

Lindros had harsh words for Flyers officials on March 23 after Kelly determined he had a Grade II concussion, saying the team's training and medical staff should have recognized how serious his injury was. He would not comment Monday about general manager Bob Clarke's statement last week that Lindros should apologize for the remarks.
