DETROIT (AP) _ Brent Gilchrist scored his second goal of the game 49 seconds into overtime, giving the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils in a preseason game Sunday.

Gilchrist also had an assist, and Doug Brown had a goal and an assist in Detroit's preseason opener. Boyd Devereaux also scored for the Red Wings.

Devereaux's goal with 4:45 remaining in the second period gave Detroit a 3-2 lead. New Jersey's Alexander Mogilny forced overtime, scoring with 38.6 seconds remaining in the third.

Scott Gomez and Jiri Bicek also scored for the Devils.

Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood made 28 saves. Frederic Henry and Martin Brodeur combined to make 27 saves for the Devils.
