PHOENIX (AP) _ Brad May scored the winning goal and Teppo Numminen had two assists as the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in a preseason game Sunday.

The Coyotes, who lost their first two preseason games, built a 2-0 lead on first-period power-play goals by Keith Tkachuk and Shane Soan.

The Coyotes moved out to a 3-0 lead 3:01 into the second on May's goal.

Martin Skoula and Alex Tanguay scored second-period, power-play goals for Colorado, which lost for the first time in three preseason games.

Sean Burke, who had 17 saves, preserved the victory when he stopped K.C. Timmons on a breakaway midway through the period.
