TORONTO (Ticker) -- Danny Markov scored a shorthanded goal from beyond the red line with 5:33 remaining as the Toronto Maple Leafs recorded a 3-1 exhibition victory over the Calgary Flames.

The Maple Leafs were outshot in the third period, 8-2, but scored from more than 100 feet out on both chances.

Markov was trying to clear the puck with his team down a man, but he put the puck on net and it skipped past goaltender Fred Brathwaite to give Toronto a 2-1 lead.

Calgary had a chance to tie with 1:40 left when Jarome Iginla fired a shot from the left faceoff circle, but rookie Jamie Hodson knocked it away with his left pad.

Darcy Tucker scored into an empty net with one second left to seal the win.

Brad Boyes, the Maple Leafs' first-round pick in the June draft, scored a power-play goal late in the second period. Jonas Hoglund fired a slap shot that was stopped by Brathwaite, but Boyes poked in the rebound.

Ron Petrovicky scored midway through the second period for the Flames, who were 0-for-5 on the power play.

Shayne Corson, who signed with Toronto as an unrestricted free agent, sat out with the flu.
