Sept. 29, 1999

We needed Saturday's win (a 24-17 victory over Auburn, where former Ole Miss coach Tommy Tuberville is in his first season), especially to make up for the week before against Vanderbilt (a 37-34 overtime loss at home). We had never won at Auburn before, now we have, and this will help us going into next weekend at South Carolina.

We're 1-0 against the SEC West, and we've got a few more games against SEC West opponents (Alabama on Oct. 16, LSU on Oct. 30, Arkansas on Nov. 6 and Mississippi State on Nov. 25). We're in good position and we just need to take it one game at a time if we want to achieve our goals of getting to the SEC Championship Game.

Being the first Ole Miss team to win at Auburn is a great feeling, but I think I'm more happy for our fans. I think you could tell from our fan support over there that they wanted that game more than anything. It made us feel really good to look up there and see a big crowd cheering for us in the Ole Miss section.

And it really meant a lot to have that many fans come to Auburn. It kept the team poised the whole game and it gave us that much more energy when things got tough. They were there the whole game, they never gave up and they helped pull us through.

Hopefully we can do the same thing at South Carolina. I've never been there, but I have heard a lot about the team's fans. I've heard they're really loud, and we need to bring as much fan support over there as possible. It really helped us out at Auburn and the fans need to know how important this game is, as well as all the other games coming up.
