Still in search of first Pac-10 win

(Editor's note: UCLA wide receiver Danny Farmer will file a weekly diary with ESPN.com throughout the season. For more information on the Bruins, visit the official UCLA site.)

Sept. 29, 1999

The Stanford game was a little disappointing. We started out a little slow and got down 28-3, but we did come back and we fought hard. The disappointing part though is that we lost. We played tough and we didn't give up, we were in the game there at the end, but we couldn't overcome the early mistakes.

It was especially hard to take because it was our first Pac-10 loss in a long time. It's disappointing, but we're just going to have to take a new attitude into our game this week against Arizona State. Arizona State is a very difficult challenge for us. The Sun Devils have a lot of great athletes.

They're struggling a little bit right now as well; they're 1-2 and we're 2-2. Coach Bob Toledo said it best when he said that, "We're both in a corner right now and we're going to have to fight our way out." That's the attitude we're going to take into this week.

In regards to the mentality of the team right now, I think we're a little down. Obviously it's disappointing losing. We're just trying to stay positive and work hard. I think the mentality is slowly getting back up. The team is a little more positive and working a little harder as well.

Practice is becoming a little more difficult, but we're just trying to fight through it and come out and win our first Pac-10 game this week.

Even though the season isn't going as we expected, there still is a chance for us to go to the Rose Bowl and there is a lot of football left to be played. We're just going to stay focused and continue to work hard and hopefully this week we will be able to execute our offense and defense a little better against Arizona State. We're going into a hostile environment, but hopefully we will come back with a victory.
