By Gregg Doyel Special to ESPN.com Florida State Seminoles 1999 record: 12-0 (8-0 ACC) Coach: Bobby Bowden Returning starters: 13 (6 offense, 7 defense)
Outlook Sophomore receiver Anquan Boldin signed with Florida State last year as one of the country's top quarterback recruits, but rather than sit on the bench behind Weinke, he asked to be moved to receiver. And all Boldin did in his first game there was catch two touchdown passes. He finished the season with 12 catches for 115 yards and as an heir to the Peter Warrick-Andre Cooper-E.G. Green legacy. Boldin, who obviously could be dangerous throwing end-around passes to a receiving corps that includes Marvin Minnis and Robert Morgan, also will return punts this season. It's a good season if ... And only if the Seminoles reach the Orange Bowl, home of the national championship game. Anything less means at least one and possibly more regular-season losses, and with the ACC slate looking to be another 8-0 sweep, that would mean a stumble against in-state foes Miami or Florida. That would be unacceptable in Tallahassee any season, especially one as anticipated as this one. Gregg Doyel covers the ACC for the Charlotte Observer |
