D as in Dominating
Roy Williams
Roy Williams and Oklahoma D just threw around the Razorbacks.

Last year, the Sooners defense carried them to the national title in the Orange Bowl. This year, the Oklahoma defense may have been even better. Oklahoma record nine sacks -- including two by Roy Williams -- and Rocky Calmus logged 11 tackles as the Sooners limited Arkansas to just 50 yards total offense and scored a 10-3 victory over the Razorbacks in the Cotton Bowl.

"This was the dominating defense everyone expects from Oklahoma. Makes you wonder what could have happened if the Sooners only had an offense."

WITH ROD GILMORE

We knew it would be a defensive struggle, and Roy Williams put on a fantastic show for Oklahoma. The safety almost singlehandedly at times shut down the Arkansas offense. The game essentially was over once Nate Hybl did a quarterback sneak to pick up a touchdown in the first quarter. But the key play was a fourth-and-one when Oklahoma went for it in Arkansas territory, and Hybl completed a pass to Trent Smith to pick up a first down. That kept the touchdown drive alive. Once the Sooners scored the touchdown, the way the Oklahoma defense was playing, you knew it was unlikely Arkansas was going to win the game.

IT WAS OVER WHEN
The Sooner defense took the field. In what was one of the most dominating bowl performances ever, Oklahoma notched a school-record tying nine sacks and limited Arkansas to just 50 yards on offense.
GAME BALL GOES TO
The heart and soul of the Sooner defense -- safety Roy Williams and linebacker Rocky Calmus. Williams notched two sacks and Calmus logged 11 tackles.

ARKANSAS CLUBHOUSE

Arkansas' offense didn't do anything in the loss to Oklahoma in the SBC Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day. But some of the credit should go to the OU defense, which dominated the game.

OKLAHOMA CLUBHOUSE

Although they weren't playing in the Rose Bowl, the Sooners sure showed a national championship-caliber defense on New Year's Day.
