Razorbacks get rules and regulations for the week

Associated Press

DALLAS -- More than 100 Arkansas football players arrived in Dallas on Wednesday, a day before the Razorbacks begin practice for the Jan. 1 Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma.

Sports information director Kevin Trainor said backup quarterback Ryan Sorahan was the only player not available for a 5 p.m. meeting. He said Sorahan, who is from California, was expected to arrive later Wednesday evening.

Sorahan relieved starter Zak Clark in the season opener and started the next two weeks against Tennessee and Alabama. He has not played since he injured his back against Alabama.

Trainor said the team meeting Wednesday was for orientation and to do a head count. He said the players were told what to expect during the next few days, along with what time they would be taped and what time they would practice.

The Razorbacks were to attend a barbecue Wednesday evening. Trainor said the players would have a meeting no later than 7 a.m. Thursday.

The 110 players to be on hand for the game include redshirts and walkons. "All of them were on their own to get here," Trainor said. "I am not aware of anyone who flew."

Each of the players received some goodies upon arrival. The bowl loot included a travel bag, a hand-held computer, a watch and a remote control vehicle. On top of that, the school provided a small wooden football trophy as a memento of the record-setting 58-56 seven-overtime victory over Mississippi.

The Razorbacks (7-4) will have their first practice Thursday morning at Texas Stadium -- home of the Dallas Cowboys, owned by former Razorback Jerry Jones.

Arkansas plans to practice at the same site Friday morning and Saturday morning. The Cowboys are at home Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers so the Razorbacks will practice late Sunday afternoon at Irving High School. On Monday, they will have a walk-through at 10 a.m. at the Cotton Bowl. The bowl kickoff is 24 hours later.

Oklahoma (10-2) will practice at Southern Methodist's stadium and then have its walk-through at the Cotton Bowl on Monday afternoon.

Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said he would not impose a curfew for the Razorbacks' first two nights in Dallas. But even on those nights, Nutt said he would encourage the players to be in by 1 a.m.

A year ago, Nutt did not impose a curfew for the first three nights the players were in Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Bowl. There was a curfew the final two nights, but the Razorbacks looked sluggish in a 31-14 defeat against Nevada-Las Vegas.
