00-01 Stats: Iowa State | Big 12

The lowdown
2000-01 record: 25-6; 13-3 in Big 12 (1st)
Final Ranking: No. 15 ESPN/USA Today; No. 10 AP
Postseason: Lost to Hampton 58-57 in first round of NCAA Tournament.

Three Questions for 2001-02
1. How do you replace Jamaal Tinsley, Kantrail Horton, Martin Rancik and Paul Shirley? The scoring, defense and experience was invaluable for the Cyclones the past two seasons.

2. Can Jake Sullivan and Shane Power duplicate their freshmen seasons? Can they step up their game and have even more of an impact?

3. Will Iowa State get more out of Andrew Skoglund in the post? What about the five newcomers?

Three Key Facts
1. With four starters gone, and only Jake Sullivan back to fill one of the backcourt spots, look for a real battle for playing time between Shane Power, Tyray Pearson, Omar Bynum, Marcus Jefferson and even freshman Adam Schaper.

2. Sullivan started 24 games as a freshman last season and led all Big-12 rookies in scoring to be named the Freshman of the Year by both coaches and the media. He led the Cyclones with 61 3-pointers (a ISU record and fourth best in Big 12 history by a freshman).

3. Larry Eustachy has been through the type of turnover the Cyclones face this season. Prior to winning its second straight Big 12 regular season title, ISU lost three starters -- including Big 12 player of the year and All-American Marcus Fizer.

Andy Katz's Scenarios
Best case: Larry Eustachy pulls off a remarkable season and somehow gets the Cyclones into the NCAA Tournament.

Worst case: More realistic is Iowa State dropping to the bottom half of the Big 12 and fighting for an NIT berth.
