With Arizona trailing 8-3 entering the eighth, Durazo smacked a two-run homer and Finley followed with a solo shot to start the rally. Lenny Harris snapped an 8-8 tie with a sacrifice fly before Luis Gonzalez provided much-needed insurance with an RBI single. Brad Clontz picked up the victory, allowing one run and two hits in one inning. Matt Mantei recorded his first save of the spring, despite giving up a solo homer to A.J. Hinch in the ninth. Arizona starter Randy Johnson was tagged for five runs over 4 1/3 innings, surrendering homers to Olmedo Saenz, Ramon Hernandez and Miguel Tejada. Scott Service took the loss, giving up three runs and four hits while retiring just two batters. Oakland starter Tim Hudson surrendered two runs and five hits over six frames and also homered. The slugfest featured nine homers as Gonzalez and Kelly Stinnett also went deep for Arizona.
