PHOENIX (AP) _ Rolando Arrojo pitched five strong innings and Darren Bragg hit a two-run homer and a two-run double as the Colorado Rockies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 14-8 Saturday.

None of the Rockies' big-name players were in the lineup against Milwaukee, but Colorado's backups got 16 hits and were more than the Brewers' pitchers could handle. Aaron Ledesma added a bases-loaded triple in the Rockies' seven-run eighth inning, and Terry Shumpert had three hits, including a pair of doubles.

Bragg, who had reconstructive knee surgery last August, has won the approval of Colorado manager Buddy Bell this spring for his head-first attitude and intensity. He also gives the Rockies depth at all three outfield positions.

``Those guys are tough to find,'' Bell said. ``He knows his role. I'm very impressed with him. I didn't know he was as tough as he is.''

Arrojo had his longest start of the spring, allowing just three hits while striking out five. He worked efficiently against the Brewers, finishing his five innings in just over an hour.

The Brewers, who made 13 errors in two games earlier this spring, dropped four popups in the brilliant blue skies at Maryvale Baseball Park. The flubs led to three Rockies runs and brought laughter from the crowd of 6,791 at Maryvale Baseball Park.

``We just worked on popups this morning,'' Milwaukee manager Davey Lopes said. ``Invariably, it seems like what you work on in the course of the day, you mess it up in the game.''

In a particularly comical episode, shortstop Santiago Perez loudly called off both second baseman Lou Collier and center-fielder Damon Hollins in right-center before missing the ball entirely.

``I think there were two different suns out there, one for them and one for us,'' Lopes laughed.

Milwaukee's Geoff Jenkins continued his strong spring with a towering home run that nearly hit the retaining wall 100 feet behind the outfield wall in right-center. Scouts estimated the blast at 500 feet.

The Brewers added four runs in the ninth, including a three-run homer by Raul Casanova. Milwaukee signed Casanova to a minor-league contract on Friday, shortly after the Rockies released him.

``He gives us an insurance policy in Triple-A for Henry (Blanco, the Brewers' starting catcher),'' Lopes said.

Edgard Clemente added a solo homer for Colorado. Brewers starter Jimmy Haynes allowed six hits and four runs in the loss while striking out five.
