U.S. forces capture Saddam

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Dec. 15, 2003 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...

U.S. military -- A big-time Stock Up to the American forces for capturing Saddam Hussein in Iraq. It was great news to hear he was captured in that hole in the ground, and a job well-done by the American military.

Gary Williams
Gary Williams
Gary Williams -- Maryland coach Gary Williams got his 300th win with the Terps, orchestrating a great win at Florida last week.

Arizona hoops -- The Wildcats beat Texas and Marquette last week. Against the Golden Eagles, coach Lute Olson's team rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half. I feel that Arizona and North Carolina have the best starting fives in America, though both are thin in terms of depth.

Kentucky-Michigan State game-- This contest set a college-basketball record with 78,129 in attendance at Ford Field on Saturday.

QB Jason White -- Oklahoma QB Jason White won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday. He came back from knee surgery, showing how well he could handle adversity.

QB Peyton Manning -- Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning threw for five touchdown passes against the Atlanta Falcons. Manning is a champion both on and off the field.

Florida hoops -- The Gators lost to Maryland and Louisville in the same week. I guess the Gators couldn't handle being No. 1.

New York Yankees -- The Yankees let starter Andy Pettitte get away to the Houston Astros. How could owner George Steinbrenner allow that to happen?

Rasheed Wallace -- Portland Trail Blazers forward Rasheed Wallace made negative comments about commissioner David Stern and the NBA. Hey, Rasheed, are you serious? Play basketball and keep that mouth shut.

Los Angeles Lakers -- The Lakers lost back-to-back games, falling at home to the Dallas Mavericks for the first time since 1990, then dropping a game against Portland.

WR Joe Horn -- Then there was New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Horn, pulling a cell phone out after scoring a touchdown. How bush league was that? The guy is supposed to be a star, yet he does that!
