Big 12 headlines

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Here are three Big 12 story lines to watch as the 2001-02 season unfolds:

Kareem Rush averaged 21.1 ppg and 6.7 rpg last season.

A resurgence of energy, enthusiasm and spirit has been displayed in Lubbock. New coach Bob Knight told me that the talent level is better than he expected, so watch out. It may take a little time before this team makes noise, but Knight will be in the spotlight big-time!

Entering his third season as Tigers head coach, Quin Snyder has the makings of a national power. Can they build off of last year's success? Kareem Rush is an All-American candidate. Clarence Gilbert is a solid scoring guard. The Tigers had a super recruiting class and have size and strength up front.

It's hard to believe that the Jayhawks haven't been to the Final Four since 1993. Williams is excited about having Drew Gooden and Nick Collison up front, with Jeff Boschee and Kirk Hinrich in the backcourt. Watch for newcomer Aaron Miles to be an impact player.
