Pesavento has been hot, but Ochs now healthy

Associated Press

BOULDER, Colo. -- Colorado head coach Gary Barnett said Thursday he hasn't decided which of his quarterbacks will play in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl against Oregon.

Senior Bobby Pesavento led the team to five consecutive victories, including Colorado's 39-37 victory over Texas in the Big 12 Championship while filling in for injured starter Craig Ochs. Pesavento finished the year 85-for-139, gaining 1,234 yards and eight touchdowns.

Ochs is now healthy enough to play.

"They (Ochs and Pesavento) have both proven they can lead this team to wins," Barnett said in a written statement. "They are both healthy right now, and I know Craig feels he is ready to go again."

Barnett said he's going to play the quarterback who will give Colorado the best chance to win.

"Craig is our starter and he has been all along," Pesavento said. "I think I have played well in the past few games, but I know the part I play on this team and when he went down, I just filled my role. Needless to say, I am here to win and I will support any decision that is made -- as I know Craig will."

Colorado, No. 3 in the Bowl Championship Series, returned to the practice field Thursday to prepare for the Jan. 1 game against Oregon (No. 2 BCS) after spending nearly two weeks idle after their victory in the Big 12 Championship.

The team did not practice in full pads but would resume hitting Friday.

Barnett said the team is focused and has looked past the disappointment of being passed over for Rose Bowl.
