Sol rallies to stop Sting

MIAMI (AP) -- Sheri Sam scored 21 points and Kristen Rasmussen added 14 as the expansion Miami Sol beat the Charlotte Sting 60-50 Friday night.

The Sol were down by six points at halftime but went on to lead by as many as 14 in the second half. Miami tied it at 34 with 10:58 to play and didn't trail the rest of the way.

Miami (11-19), the WNBA's worst shooting team, has shot below than 30 percent from the field five times. The Sol weren't much better Friday, shooting 36.5 percent. They missed 25 of 33 shots in the first half.

Andrea Stinson led Charlotte (7-22) with 14 points and Dawn Staley added 11. The Sol went to the free-throw line 28 times to only eight trips for the Sting. Rasmussen was 6-for-6 and Sam missed only once in seven attempts. With 9:24 left, Rasmussen hit a 3-pointer that gave Miami a 40-34 lead. Sam made a shot from behind the arc with 6:57 remaining to push the lead to 45-35. The Sol returned home after losing five times on a six-game road trip.
