SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Ticker) -- Ruthie Bolton-Holifield scored 19 of her 23 points in the second half as the Sacramento Monarchs overcame a sluggish start to earn a 73-56 victory over the fading Minnesota Lynx. Bolton-Holifield found her shooting touch after being honored at halftime for her selection to the United States Women's Olympic team, hitting all five of her 3-pointers in the second half. Sacramento (14-9) snapped a three-game losing streak and opened a two-game lead over idle Utah for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Minnesota (10-12) suffered its seventh straight loss and dropped 3 1/2 games behind the Monarchs. Minnesota opened a 23-17 lead on Betty Lennox's jumper with 9:48 remaining in the half but Sacramento took control with a 31-9 run that extended into the second half. The Monarchs reeled off 12 straight points to go up 29-23 before settling for a 33-28 halftime lead. Sacramento put away the contest with a 15-4 spurt at the start of the second half, opening a 48-32 cushion on Kedra Holland-Corn's jumper with 15:45 to play. Katie Smith, who scored 23 points for Minnesota, drilled three straight 3-pointers, helping the Lynx pull within 64-56 with 3:30 remaining.
