BOX SCORE
SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Playing without All-Star forward Natalie Williams and trailing most of the game, the Utah Starzz took control late Sunday against the expansion Seattle Storm and recorded their third straight win, 56-53. Williams, the league's fifth-leading scorer, strained her back during warmups and opted to sit out. She scored 30 points, one shy of a career high, in Saturday's victory over Washington. The Starzz struggled without her as the Storm used a 13-6 run to build a 44-37 lead with 7:23 remaining. Seattle was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line during that stretch, with Edna Campbell going 4-of-4 and Stacy Lovelace also scoring four points. But Utah rallied around its fallen teammate, thanks to a 17-5 run. Kate Starbird hit a running jumper with 1:43 left and converted the three-point play to give the Starzz a 50-49 lead, its first since 3½ minutes into the contest. Margo Dydek scored six points in the burst, capping it with two free throws with 20 seconds left. Campbell hit a pair of layups around a free throw by Utah's Dalma Ivanyi as Seattle got within 55-53 with 7.8 seconds remaining. Starbird made a free throw to put Utah up by three, and Campbell missed a desperation 35-footer just before the final buzzer. Utah tied a team record for consecutive wins, established Aug. 5-9 last season. Dydek scored 16 points and was 10-of-10 from the line for the Starzz, who have won five of their last eight games. Campbell scored 21 points, but no one else had more than six for the Storm. | ALSO SEE WNBA Scoreboard RECAPS Houston 78 Minnesota 66
