HOUSTON (AP) -- Tina Thompson scored 20 points and Cynthia Cooper had 18 as the three-time defending WNBA champion Houston Comets routed the expansion Miami Sol 77-53 on Thursday night. Sheryl Swoopes added 16 points for the Comets, who led 44-13 at the half and 53-15 early in the second half. Houston has won four straight to improve to 8-1. Thompson, Cooper and Swoopes combined for 42 of Houston's 44 first-half points. Thompson had 17 points in the half, Cooper 13 and Swoopes 12. Katrina Colleton led Miami with 10 points. The Sol (2-5) were 18-for-52 from the field, including a 3-for-11 mark from 3-point range. Swoopes, who led Houston in scoring in the first eight games, had six rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Cooper was 5-for-7 from the field and had five assists. Comets rookie forward Elena Chakirova had 10 points and five rebounds -- all in the second half.
