MIAMI (AP) -- Katie Smith scored 28 points to lead the Minnesota Lynx to a 66-55 victory over the Miami Sol on Saturday night. Minnesota (4-2) won its third straight, despite the absence of starting center Kristin Folkl for most of the game. Folkl banged heads with teammate Marla Brumfield three minutes in and didn't return. Smith, the WNBA's leading scorer, made 14-of-16 free throws, including eight straight in the final eight minutes. Betty Lennox scored nine of her 12 points in the first half, and Grace Daley added eight for Minnesota. Reserve Sheri Sam scored 15, and Katrina Colleton and Jameka Jones added 10 each for the Sol (1-4), who are still looking for their first franchise victory at home after three losses at the AmericanAirlines Arena. Minnesota hit six straight free throws, with Smith converting four, to boost its lead to 56-39 with 4:14 remaining. Sam scored nine straight points, including a 3-pointer, but Smith countered with a 3-pointer to boost Minnesota's lead to 59-48 with 2:17 left. Jones' runner in the lane made it 60-51, but Smith made four straight free throws to secure the victory. Lennox scored nine points in the first half and Smith added eight, including a 3-pointer with 50 seconds left to help the Lynx take a 30-17 halftime lead. Former Georgia Tech standout Kisha Ford, signed on Friday, scored the first seven points of an 11-1 Sol spurt to cut the deficit to 45-36 with 8:03 remaining. Both teams shot under 37 percent from the field for the game, but the Lynx went 22-for-29 from the free-throw line, to Miami's 13-for-22. Daley hit two driving layups, and Smith added a 3-pointer and two free throws to cap an 11-0 run, giving the Lynx a 19-11 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
