Why he is on the list: Knight's downfall began in May and ended in September. After an investigation of Knight choking player Neil Reed during practice -- caught on videotape -- Knight was put under a zero-tolerance policy. Instead of laying low, Knight bad-mouthed the administration, threw a tantrum and a vase toward a female athletic department official and abstained from school functions. When he grabbed a student's arm and lectured him on being more respectful, the inevitable firing, said to already be in the works, came down.

Why they are on the list: Even people who don't normally follow tennis paid attention to the Wimbledon semifinal when the sisters faced off. Venus went on to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, which Serena had won the year before, and signed the biggest endorsement deal ever for a female athlete with Reebok last week. At the Sydney Olympics, Venus took the gold in singles -- then the sisters united to take home the gold medal in doubles.
