CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Martin Rucinsky had two goals to help the Montreal Canadiens to their first preseason win, 4-2 over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Both of Rucinsky's goals, his first two of the preseason, came in Montreal's three-goal second period on perfectly placed shots against Calgary goalie Fred Brathwaite.

Rucinsky put the Canadiens ahead 2-0 at 9:51 by firing a shot from the high slot off the inside of the left post.

In the final minute of the period, Rucinsky snapped a shot that glanced in off the other post for a shorthanded goal.

Jason Ward and rookie defenseman Stephane Robidas also scored for Montreal (1-3-1), which was playing the first of five games in six nights.

Rookie Oleg Saprykin and Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist each for the Flames (3-2-0). Saprykin and Iginla share the team lead with four preseason goals each.

Montreal squandered three two-man advantages en route to a 1-for-9 night on the power play. Calgary was 0-for-6.

After struggling in his first few appearances, Canadiens goalie Jeff Hackett was much sharper in finishing with 26 saves. Hackett was especially sharp in the first period, making 11 saves, including successive stops late in the period against Rico Fata, Marty Murray and Iginla.
