MONTREAL (AP) -- The Ottawa Senators were not about to settle for anything less than a win against the lowly Montreal Canadiens. After blowing a two-goal lead to Montreal two nights earlier, and ending up with a tie, the Senators put on a dominating performance in a 3-2 victory Wednesday night in a return match with the Canadiens. "We dominated the faceoffs and that gave us control of the puck all night," said Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson, whose club outshot Montreal 35-16. "It showed in the way we dominated the shots." Goals in a 4:47 span of the second period from Igor Kravchuk, Mike Fisher and Shaun Van Allen were all the Senators needed. Ottawa has lost only once in its last nine games (4-1-4). The Canadiens had a three-game unbeaten streak snapped. "It's not that we didn't try, it's just that they were very strong in their forecheck, their play in their own end and in their transition game," said Montreal coach Alain Vigneault, whose injury-wracked team has lost 15 games by one goal this season. Montreal rookie Arron Asham scored his first two NHL goals -- one in the first and the other with only 30 seconds left to play. Kravchuk's screened wrist shot from the right point beat Jeff Hackett on a power play at 13:08 of the middle period and Fisher tapped in Joe Juneau's pass at 14:49. Van Allen scored on a short-handed breakaway at 17:55. Three of Fisher's four goals this season have come in three games against Montreal. Asham intercepted a weak clearing attempt by Patrick Traverse, broke in alone and deked Patrick Lalime at 11:25 of the opening period for his first goal in 30 games. "Thirty games is a long time, so it was nice to get those two goals," Asham said. "On the other hand, it's tough when you lose." The Canadiens pulled Hackett in the final minute, despite being short-handed, and Asham pushed the puck under Lalime for his second goal. The announced crowd of 21,273, only the third sellout this season at Molson Centre, saw Ottawa outshoot Montreal 35-16. Senators defenseman Sami Salo, who returned Monday after missing 23 games with a fractured wrist, left in the first after injuring his left forearm. "I injured it on my first shift," said Salo, who will be examined Thursday by doctors to see if the arm is broken again. "I played five more (shifts) but I could hardly hold the stick."
