BOX SCORE
KANATA, Ontario (Ticker) -- Tommy Salo made 29 saves and the Edmonton Oilers made the most of 12 shots in a 3-0 exhibition victory over the Ottawa Senators. Salo tied for eighth in the league last season with five shutouts. He stopped nine shots in the first period, 13 in the second and seven in the third to hand Ottawa its first loss in five preseason games. Alexander Selivanov scored the only goal Salo needed on the power play midway through the first period. Janne Niinimaa threaded a pass from the left point to the low right faceoff circle, where Selivanov flubbed a one-timer that trickled through rookie Jani Hurme. Eric Houde and Brian Swanson tallied in the second period, when the Oilers managed only five shots. Playing without stars Bill Guerin and Doug Weight and holdouts Roman Hamrlik and Mike Grier, Edmonton was held to two shots over the final 20 minutes. Rob Zamuner and Marian Hossa were among the regulars who did not play for the Senators.
