BOSTON (AP) -- The Philadelphia Flyers left Boston with a 3-0 victory and maybe a chance at Ray Bourque, too. Eric Lindros returned to the lineup with a goal and an assist on Saturday as the Flyers beat Boston 3-0 in what might have been Bourque's last game as a Bruin. Philadelphia is among the teams rumored to be bidding for the 18-time All-Star and five-time Norris Trophy winner.
After spending his entire 21-year career with the Bruins without winning a Stanley Cup, Bourque is reportedly interested in being traded to a contender for a chance at a championship. The 39-year-old defenseman is in the last year of his contract and has not said if he will be back next season. Boston is 19-29-17 and will probably miss the playoffs. The Flyers, who are 34-19-11, improved to second in the Eastern Conference with the victory and could be hoping that Bourque will put them over the top. "Ray Bourque's been a wonderful competitor for all these years. At times he dominates the game," acting Flyers coach Craig Ramsey said. "Any team would be pleased to have him." Many fans stood and clapped at the end of the game as Bourque skated over the boards, where referee Terry Gregson handed him the game puck. Although Bourque is well-known for his accessibility, always standing in front of his locker to answer all questions about the team's latest disappointment, he declined comment after Saturday's game. About an hour after the loss, Bourque walked across the locker room in a towel and went straight to the trainer's room. "Sorry, guys," he said, shaking his head. A few minutes later, he was escorted out by a security entourage. Bruins coach Pat Burns answered two questions -- neither about Bourque -- before leaving his postgame news conference. "We haven't talked about it, but we've read about it," said Bruins goalie Rob Tallas, who made 21 saves as the Bruins dropped to 2-7-3 in their last 12 games. "Every player here would back him up 100 percent if something happens." Lindros missed five games with back injuries. Keith Primeau, who assisted on the Flyers' first goal, also returned after missing nine games with a broken rib, and Ulf Samuelsson missed the last nine with a rotator cuff injury. The Bruins were not without their own injury troubles: They learned this week that Anson Carter, who leads the team in scoring with 22 goals, will be out for season because of wrist surgery. He joins Jason Allison and goalie Byron Dafoe, who aren't expected back this year either. John LeClair tallied the 300th and 301st assists of his career, and Keith Jones had a goal and an assist for Philadelphia. The Flyers took a 1-0 lead on Simon Gagne's 14th goal of the season, backhanding the puck into the corner of the net at the 14:42 mark. Lindros made it 2-0 with his 25th goal of the year, deflecting LeClair's pass through Tallas' legs 3:39 into the second. With 3:52 left in the second, Jones knocked in the rebound of LeClair's shot to make it 3-0.
The scoreboard went out in the first period, forcing the public
address announcer to give periodic updates on the time remaining.
The period did not end with a buzzer but with the announcement that
"Time has expired."
