CHICAGO (AP) -- The St. Louis Blues put the clamps on the Chicago Blackhawks to take the Western Conference lead.

Roman Turek stopped only 11 shots for his fourth shutout of the season as Blues beat the Blackhawks 3-0 on Friday night.

	Stephane Richer and the Blues didn't let the Blackhawks see much of the puck on Friday.

"Tonight the guys played well and I didn't have much work," Turek said. "But usually in these games, it's hard to get the shutout. Without much work, I get cold and someone scores."

Todd Reirden, Pavol Demitra and Mike Eastwood scored goals to help St. Louis, the NHL's top defensive team, move past Detroit for first place in the Western Conference.

The Blackhawks tied a team record for fewest shots in a game, set April 18, 1998, in Dallas.

"Turek didn't get much action, but he had to be sharp in the third period," St. Louis coach Joel Quenneville said. "He had his concentration and focus."

The Blues, who launched 37 shots on Jocelyn Thibault, narrowly missed setting a team record for fewest shots allowed. The record is nine, set March 4, 1999, against Toronto.

"I don't think our work ethic was good," Chicago associate coach Lorne Molleken said. "They outworked and outhustled us. If not for Thibault, it would have been lopsided."

Reirden opened the scoring at 3:15 of the first period, the defenseman's second goal of the season.

St. Louis outshot Chicago 13-3 in the first period, with the Blackhawks failing to a shot in the first 13:24.

The Blues outshot the Blackhawks 11-3 in the scoreless second period. St. Louis' Pierre Turgeon fooled Thibault at 9:00, but the shot bounced off the post.

Demitra made it 2-0 with 4:23 left in the third when his shot from the side of the net banked in off Thibault's pad. Eastwood completed the scoring with a short-handed empty-net goal with 8.6 seconds left.

One of the Blackhawks best scoring chances -- and seventh shot -- came six minutes into the third period when Turek stopped Doug Gilmour on a 3-on-2 break. Turek also was forced to make glove saves on Tony Amonte and Doug Gilmour later in the period.
