Sunday, September 12 Pick PrimeTime Player for Week 1
Week 1 of the 1999 NFL season was filled with some huge individual efforts. We've narrowed it down to our seven top performances, and now it's your turn to pick the week's PrimeTime Player:
Troy Aikman Aikman brought Dallas back from a 35-14 fourth-quarter deficit and then beat the Redskins in overtime with a 76-yard TD pass to Rocket Ismail. The Cowboys quarterback threw for 362 yards and finished with five TD passes in a game for the first time in his career.
Dom Capers
The Jaguars expected Capers to make a big impact as their new defensive coordinator. Well, if the first game is any indication, the Jags are in for a great season. Capers' defense held San Francisco to 205 total yards and forced Steve Young into a 9-for-26 outing. Remember, the Niners had the NFL's No. 1 offense last year.
Brett Favre Favre showed why he's started more consecutive games than any other active quarterback. Staying in the game despite an injured thumb on his passing hand, Favre threw for 333 yards and four TDs, dramatically rallying the Packers to a 28-24 victory over the Raiders.
Edgerrin James
In his first NFL game, James continued to prove the Colts knew what they were doing when they took him ahead of Ricky Williams. James rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown in Indianapolis' impressive 31-14 victory over Buffalo.
Keyshawn Johnson
Even though the Jets lost to the Patriots, Johnson can't be blamed. He caught eight passes from three different quarterbacks for 194 yards, including a 25-yard TD catch.
Willie McGinest McGinest was all over the field in the Patriots' 30-28 victory over the Jets. He forced and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown that started New England's second-half rally. The Pats defensive end finished with two sacks and four tackles.
Steve McNair
Air McNair rang up some frequent-flyer miles in the Titans' 36-35 victory over the Bengals. McNair completed 21 of 32 passes for 341 yards and three TDs, rallying Tennessee to a thrilling victory.
