RB says he's thinking about turning pro early

Associated Press

DALLAS (AP) -- Arkansas running back Cedric Cobbs says he has given some consideration to turning pro early.

"I really don't know. It's just something I've thought about" he said Saturday as he left the field after the Razorbacks practiced for their New Year's Day matchup in the SBC Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma.

Cobbs set a school record for an Arkansas freshman when he ran for 668 yards in 1999. Last season, he made 291 yards in three games, but then was sidelined with a separated shoulder. This season, he has had good games and not-so-good games.

Coach Houston Nutt said Saturday that Cobbs will make up his own mind on whether to enter the NFL draft before completing his eligibility at Arkansas.

"It's his decision, it's his family's decision -- I'll advise him," Nutt said as he left the practice field. "But right now, I'm concentrating on the Cotton Bowl, and that's what he should be doing."

Asked how he would advise Cobbs, Nutt responded: "I'd like to hear what they (agents or the NFL) have to say first."
