The lowdown
2000-01 record: 25-10; 11-5 in C-USA (1st in American)
Final Ranking: No. 22 ESPN/USA Today
Postseason: Lost to Stanford 78-65 in third round of NCAA Tournament.
Three Questions for 2001-02
1. Will the Bearcats miss Kenny Satterfield? Can Steve Logan handle both jobs and be the playmaker and the scorer from the point?
2. Will Cincinnati bring back Donald Little? If so, can he stay out of trouble for a whole year and help the frontcourt? If not, do the Bearcats have enough inside to offset any rebounding and scoring problems in the post?
3. How will the Bearcats handle being the lesser story in the league to Louisville and Memphis? Will they take the role as underdog?
Three Key Facts
1. Is Cincy's streak in danger this season? The Bearcats have won either the regular season or tournament championship in each of the past 10 seasons and in four of those seasons, Cincinnati has swept both crowns. The Bearcats enter the 2001-02 season looking for their seventh straight regular-season crown.
2. Steve Logan can put his name pretty high on some Cincinnati career lists this season. The senior enters the year with 1,215 career points (21st), but could finish among the top 10 by season's end if he keeps up his career scoring average. He also enters the season as the school's career free-throw percentage leader (253 of 297; .852) and his 172 3-pointers rank fourth on the career list.
3. Bob Huggins embarks on his 20th season as a head coach and will do so as the nation's seventh-winningest active caoch. Huggins has compiled a 469-168 career record (.758).
Andy Katz's Scenarios
Best case: The Bearcats have the personnel to still win the league, but the more likely scenario is a second-place finish, a berth in the tournament and a win or two again.
Worst case: They inside game remains suspect and the Bearcats drop to third-best in Conference USA, fight for a berth in the tournament.
