OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – For one night, everything went Jason
Terry's way.
Terry matched his career-high with 38 points as the Atlanta
Hawks sent the Golden State Warriors to their fourth straight loss
and ninth in 10 games, 98-91 Sunday night.
"I was just in the flow of things tonight," he said. "I was
getting good looks, and our point guard, Brevin Knight, was looking
out for me. Lorenzen (Wright) was kicking it out of the post nicely
to me."
The Warriors have failed to shoot better than 46 percent from
the floor in their last 14 games. Against the Hawks, they managed
just 36 percent.
"We're not trying to miss – it's just what's going on," Golden
State coach Dave Cowens said. "All season, man, it's the way it
is."
Atlanta, which snapped a seven-game losing streak with a victory
at Seattle on Saturday night, got 17 points and 16 rebounds from
Wright.
"A two-game win streak for us is not modest, it's very
significant," Hawks coach Lon Kruger said. "When you don't win
very many ball games it's nice to put together back-to-back wins."
Antawn Jamison led the Warriors with 37 points and 19 rebounds.
"It's just another game we didn't find a way to win," Jamison
said.
The Hawks opened the second half with a 50-49 advantage, but the
Warriors went on a run to take a 62-53 lead on Mookie Blaylock's
3-pointer.
The Warriors clung to the lead, going up 75-67 on Jamison's dunk
with less than two minutes left in the third quarter.
After Vonteego Cummings' slam made it 78-71 for the Warriors,
the Hawks' Larry Robinson had a layup and a 3-pointer before Cal
Bowdler put Atlanta back in the lead at 79-78.
Larry Hughes got the Warriors to 89-88 with 1:18 left, but
Golden State could not take the lead.
The Hawks went up 38-30 on DerMarr Johnson's slam dunk with 8:55
left before the half, but the Warriors pecked away at the deficit
and tied it at 38 on Hughes' turnaround jumper at 6:29.
Golden State took a 41-40 lead on Cummings' jumper, and extended
the lead to three on Jamison's tip-in with just over five minutes
until halftime.
The Hawks pulled back in front and extended their lead to 50-46
on Terry's dunk seconds before the break, but Jamison hit a
3-pointer as the clock ran out to narrow the margin.
Game notes
Blaylock needs five steals to reach 2,000 for his career.
Only seven NBA players have reached that mark. ... Steve Holman,
the radio voice of the Atlanta Hawks, broadcast his 1,000th
straight game Sunday night. His streak is the second-longest in the
NBA, behind Chick Hearn of the Lakers. ... The Warriors have lost
nine of their last 12 games against the Hawks. ... Golden State's
Chris Mullin missed a second straight game with a strained lower
back ... American League MVP Jason Giambi and his brother and
Oakland Athletics teammate, Jeremy, were at Sunday night's game.
