LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Sam Mitchell scored 20 points, Kevin Garnett added 18 and Bobby Jackson filled in for Terrell Brandon with 17 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves held off the Los Angeles Clippers 95-89 Friday night. It was the eighth win in nine road games for the Timberwolves, who took control with a 15-4 run to start the fourth quarter. The Clippers, who have dropped seven straight and 11 of their last 12, lost despite going into the fourth quarter with a six-point lead. Minnesota's 15-4 run made it 84-79 with 6:01 remaining. Twice the Clippers got within two in the final 3:44, the last time on a steal and layup by Derek Anderson. But Maurice Taylor committed his fifth foul on Joe Smith, who hit both free throws. Jackson had steals and layups on consecutive plays to end the game for the Wolves, who are 8-2 in January with six wins coming by six points or less. Brandon missed his third straight game because of a strained right calf that he injured a week ago against the Lakers. Rookie Lamar Odom led the Clippers with 18 points and 14 rebounds, but missed a 30-footer in the closing seconds. Anderson and Taylor added 14 points each. After trailing most of the first half, the Wolves briefly regained the lead late in the third quarter on a dunk by Radoslav Nesterovic. But the Clippers scored six of the final eight points for a 72-69 lead heading into the final 12 minutes. The Clippers gained control early in the second quarter, outscoring Minnesota 15-4 to take a 39-30 lead. Minnesota got within two before Eric Murdock scored six straight points to keep Los Angeles in front 44-39. Mitchell had eight of Minnesota's final 10 points to put the Wolves within five at halftime. Notes: Clippers center Michael Olowokandi fouled out with 4:41 remaining after six points and four rebounds. ... The Clippers' first road win of the season came against the Wolves on Nov. 17. ... For the first time this week, Garnett didn't score at least 30 points. He had 31 at Utah on Wednesday and a career-high 37 at Indiana on Monday. ... Starting Friday, six of Minnesota's next nine opponents have records below .500.
