Scouting Report
1999 Season
Eric Plunk was having a decent year as a middle reliever and setup man before completely melting down late in the season. His ERA was a lofty 7.52 in 32.1 innings after the All-Star break.
Pitching, Defense & Hitting
Once a very hard thrower, Plunk still cracks 90 MPH but has come to rely more heavily on his wide-breaking slider. He works up in the strike zone and is vulnerable to the longball. His durability and ability to work two innings at a time are pluses, but his inability to work on consecutive days somewhat limits his use. As a fielder, Plunk has limited mobility and hasn't recorded a putout in two years. His high leg kick makes him very easy to run on. He has fanned in both of his big league at-bats.
2000 Outlook
The Brewers decided not to pick up Plunk's $1.8 million option for 2000, and his late-season troubles may make it difficult for him to find work elsewhere. If he does manage to catch on with another club, expect him to put up similar numbers.
