GAME LOG
MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Keith Osik had a game he would like to forget. Osik committed a passed ball and a throwing error that scored Lou Collier with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates and a split of their twi-night doubleheader. Collier drew a leadoff walk against Pirates reliever Bronson Arroyo (2-6) in the 10th inning before being sacrificed over by Raul Casanova. Pinch-hitter Geoff Jenkings was intentionally walked before he and Collier advanced on Osik's passed ball. Osik then dropped a third strike to Richie Sexson before throwing the ball into left field trying to pick Collier off third base. "I just made a bad throw," Osik said. "I didn't have a good grip on it and I tried to throw it over the top of (Sexson). Pretty much the way that inning was going, we needed to gamble in order to get an out." "I was on third with that in the back of my head," Collier said. "I don't think they would have got me if that were a perfect throw anyway. As a baserunner in that situation, you have to be aware of that because you are the winning run." The Pirates catcher also grounded into an inning-ending double play in the top of the 10th inning. Brewers closer Curtis Leskanic (8-3) picked up the victory with two scoreless innings in relief. "What makes a good team is when you get a reputation of coming from behind and scoring in the late innings," Leskanic said. "That sends a message throughout the league." Milwaukee could only muster two hits off Pittsburgh starter Dan Serafini and trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning before scoring four runs off Pittsburgh relievers Marc Wilkins and Scott Sauerbeck. "I was kind of dumbfounded as to why were having trouble getting hits but we've had trouble with lefthanders all season," Brewers manager Davey Lopes said. Luis Lopez halved the deficit with a two-run double and Mark Loretta drove in another run on a groundout before Lyle Mouton plated Lopez with his double off Sauerbeck. "We had defeat looking us in the eye late in the game and we rallied back to get the win," Lopes said. "They had a miscue that won it for us, but good ballclubs make those things happen." Pittsburgh jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Emil Brown's RBI groundout in the first inning before doubling the advantage the following frame on Serafini's run-scoring single. It was Serafini's first career RBI. The Pirates built a four-run cushion in the sixth inning on Osik's single and Mike Benjamin's bunt base hit. Meanwhile, Serafini struck out five and overcame seven walks while throwing 125 pitches through seven innings. "(Serafini) pitched outstanding, but he wasn't going to throw two more innings and get 160 pitches so I thought it was the best thing to get him out," Pirates manager Gene Lamont said. Milwaukee starter John Snyder yielded four runs and nine hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking one. Pittsburgh posted a 4-2 victory in the opener.
