Dodgers lose fifth straight game

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

DENVER (AP) -- Five years of playing with Chan Ho Park provided Todd Hollandsworth with an edge.

Hollandsworth, Todd Helton and Todd Walker hit RBI singles in a six-run first inning as the Colorado Rockies dealt the Los Angeles Dodgers their fifth consecutive loss, 7-6 Saturday.

"The key to beating him is trying to get him early," Hollandsworth said of Park. "When he settles in, he can pitch like no other."

Hollandsworth was 2-for-3 and has added 30 points to his batting average since being traded from Los Angeles to the Rockies on July 31.

"It felt a little weird the last two days because I know a lot of people I know on that team, " Hollandsworth said. "Right now I am hoping we have a shot of getting back in this thing."

"Hollandsworth has been playing well since we got him over here," Colorado manager Buddy Bell said. "I'm not sure if he's completely comfortable, but he has been swing the bat well and getting some big hits for us."

The Rockies improved to 73-68, giving them one more victory than they had during last year's 72-90 disappointment.

Helton finished 1-for-4, dropping his batting average one point to .385.

The first eight Colorado batters reached base against Chan Ho Park (15-9). He had won his previous four starts with an 0.84 ERA in that span.

Adrian Beltre and Chris Donnels hit two-run homers for the Dodgers.

"That was a bad as I have seen Chan Ho pitch," Los Angeles manager Davey Johnson said. "To his credit, he pitched well the next four innings, but it was too late.

Gabe White (10-2) pitched 1 1-3 innings for the win. Jose Jimenez worked the ninth for his 19th save in 25 tries.

Park lasted five innings and gave up seven runs, five of them earned, and 10 hits. He struck out seven and walked three.

"I couldn't get my curve to work while warming up before the game so I went more to my changeup," Park said. "My curve was bad. My changeup was worse."

Juan Pierre hit a leadoff single in the Rockies first, Neifi Perez walked and Helton singled for a 1-0 lead. Shortstop Alex Cora made two throwing errors before the Dodgers got the first out of the inning when Butch Huskey was caught stealing third.

Beltre's 17th home run of the year made it 6-2 in the second. Doubles by Huskey and Brent Mayne gave the Rockies a run in the third.

Rockies starter Brian Rose ran into control trouble in a two-run fifth inning. After allowing an infield single to Tom Goodwin, Rose walked Mark Grudzielanek and Gary Sheffield with one out.

Green hit an RBI single and reliever Mike DeJean gave up a sacrifice fly to Eric Karros.

Donnels' pinch-hit homer in the sixth got Los Angeles within 7-6.

"They weren't going to take this one away from us," Bell said. "We were hoping that they didn't have quite enough and they didn't.
