CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox may be the top team in the American League, but the Seattle Mariners showed them why they, too, believe they belong among the elite. Mike Cameron came off the bench to deliver a key two-run double, hit a home run and make a spectacular ninth-inning catch as the Mariners rallied for a 7-5 victory over the White Sox to complete a sweep their doubleheader. Seattle posted a 12-4 rout of Chicago in the first game and now trails Chicago by just one-half game for the best mark in the AL. Chicago carried a 5-1 lead into the fifth inning before the pitching and defense let it down. Mark McLemore started the rally with an RBI single off White Sox rookie starter Lorenzo Barcelo and Seattle loaded the bases with nobody out later in the inning before pinch-hitter Cameron ripped a two-run double to left off rookie reliever Mark Buehrle (1-1) that cut the deficit to one. Three batters later, Seattle's John Olerud hit a grounder to second base that appeared to be an inning-ending double play, but White Sox shortstop Jose Valentin threw wildly to first base that allowed Cameron to score the go-ahead run. Cameron gave the Mariners an important insurance run in the top of the ninth inning by blasting a 3-1 pitch from White Sox reliever Bob Howry over the right-field fence for his 14th home run. But Chicago would not go down quietly as they put two runners on with nobody out in the bottom of the inning. Magglio Ordonez followed with a line drive to center field that Cameron grabbed with a shoestring catch. First baseman Olerud followed by making a sparkling diving grab of Harold Baines' line drive down the first-base line. Mariners closer Kazuhiro Sasaki then struck out Herbert Perry for his 27th save in 30 chances. Seattle starter Freddy Garcia (4-2) earned the victory despite allowing five runs and six hits in five innings.
