ELMONT, N.Y. - Kentucky Derby runner-up Empire Maker and Lone Star Derby winner Dynever completed their preparations for next Saturday's Belmont Stakes by putting in workouts Saturday morning over a fast Belmont Park main track.

At 6:00 a.m., Empire Maker, with jockey Aaron Gryder up, went five furlongs in 1:13.05, according to Belmont clockers. He was timed in splits of 13.71 seconds, 26.01, 38.25 and 1:01.31. He got his final three furlongs in 34.80 seconds and galloped seven furlongs in 1:27.15.

"I was just looking for him to go well and he did," trainer Bobby Frankel said. "He finished up very well, but that doesn't mean anything."

Following the renovation break, Dynever was credited with a four-furlong move in 48.41 seconds, though he actually worked five furlongs from the half-mile pole. His five-furlong time, according to trainer Christophe Clement, was 1:00.40. Exercise rider Christophe Lorieul was up for the move.

"It's a good work," Clement said. "I got him in 48 for the last half-mile and the rider was not overly aggressive with him."

Those were the only two Belmont Stakes horses to put in workouts Saturday. The field remained at seven definites - Best Minister, Dynever, Empire Maker, Funny Cide, Scrimshaw, Supervisor, and Ten Most Wanted. Midway Road, Outta Here and Wild and Wicked remain listed as possible.
