STOCK UP: LeBron lighting up the NBA
LeBron James -- The Cleveland Cavaliers rookie has been scintillating lately, averaging almost 30 points per game in his past five outings (which includes two straight road wins for the Cavs).
Wake Forest -- The Demon Deacons defeated North Carolina 119-114 in three overtimes Saturday. Give coach Skip Prosser some love!
Kentucky -- The Wildcats blitzed Indiana 80-41 on Saturday after being up just six points at halftime.
San Antonio Spurs -- The Spurs have won 10 straight games. All-Star Tim Duncan has had 23 double-doubles already this season. Duncan is class personified as he leads the Spurs.
Ben Roethlisberger -- The Miami-Ohio quarterback threw for 376 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-28 win over Louisville in the GMAC Bowl. Then he announced he's going to the NFL, baby! Hey, Benny, shorten your name ... I'll just call you Benny R!
Notre Dame -- The Irish got a five-year extension from NBC for broadcasting football games. I believe the Irish will stay independent now.
STOCK DOWN: St. John's wrong to fire Jarvis
St. John's -- St. John's gets a "Stock Down" for firing Mike Jarvis during the season, just six games into the campaign. Shame on the St. John's administration, because college coaches shouldn't be losing their jobs this early. It's the first time a coach has been fired during the season in the Big East's 25 years.
Major League Baseball -- For the way the potential Alex Rodriguez deal fell apart, though there is a new deadline now from Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks for the trade with the Boston Red Sox. When the union got involved, it became interesting, because the players and teams all wanted this deal to work. I think ultimately it will happen. A-Rod has made it known that he wants to play in Boston, so he can't really go back to Texas now. I believe it has to happen eventually.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- The defending Super Bowl champions were eliminated from the playoff race after a 30-28 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at home in Raymond James Stadium ... gone.
Atlanta Hawks -- The Hawks, who sport a seven-game losing streak, have been a disaster.
