STOCK UP: Big wins for Texas Tech
Texas Tech basketball -- Coach Bob Knight's Red Raiders scored a pair of blowout wins over Davidson and Massachusetts in the Preseason NIT. It gets tougher this week with Preseason NIT games against Utah ... and maybe No. 1 Connecticut.
Michigan football -- The Wolverines did a great job beating Ohio State 35-21 in Ann Arbor on Saturday, locking up a berth in the Rose Bowl. QB John Navarre threw for 278 yards and RB Chris Perry ran for 154. Navarre has been maligned, but he's a flat-out winner. College athletics needs more people like him, an all-around student athlete.
QB Jason White -- Oklahoma QB Jason White threw for 394 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Texas Tech, while Red Raiders quarterback B.J. Symons set an NCAA single-season passing yardage record. Hey Sooners, get ready for USC in the national-championship game!
RB Darren Sproles -- Kansas State RB Darren Sproles ran for a school-record 273 yards in a win over Missouri.
Indiana Pacers -- Coach Rick Carlisle's Pacers are an NBA-best 10-2 (6-0 on the road) and riding a four-game win streak, including a big victory Friday over the New Orleans Hornets. Carlisle has done a great job. Detroit may have made a mistake letting him get away.
STOCK DOWN: Nets stumbling at start of season
New Jersey Nets -- The Nets are 5-7 overall (2-5 at home). They were 33-8 at the Meadowlands last season. It's Turmoil City for coach Byron Scott and Co. right now.
Orlando Magic -- The Magic fired Doc Rivers after just 11 games. Yes, Orlando was 1-10, but it was simply "what have you done for me lately." Rivers is a good guy with great ability who enjoyed four good seasons. The Magic pulled the trigger too quickly.
Washington Capitals -- Despite having Jaromir Jagr, the Capitals have just five wins in their first 20 games.
Virginia Tech football -- What happened to Virginia Tech? The Hokies lost at home to Boston College, 34-27.
Bucknell basketball -- Bucknell's foul shooting vs. Michigan State cost the Bison a chance at a shocker. Bucknell shot just 1-of-17 from the free-throw line! You won't win when you shoot like that.
